Walks Programme

The Ramblers New Forest Group

Our Walks Programme

The New Forest Group  provide an extensive programme of walks.  Walks are on a 'turn up and go' basis, which means that the quoted time is the time to have your boots on ready to walk, but you don't need to tell the leader in advance that you are coming - so if you are late he or she won't wait! The regular programme includes

Shorter walks (typically 5-6 miles) on Saturday mornings, Saturday afternoons and alternate Tuesdays.
Medium walks (typically 7-8 miles)  on alternate Thursdays.
Longer walks (typically 10-13 miles)  on Sundays and Wednesdays

We also run evening walks in the summer months, typically these are 4-5 miles and finish near a pub where walkers can choose to take refreshment.

There are a number of special events during the year - see the programme for details.

Each programme runs for 4 months commencing in  March, July and November each year.

These walks depend on our volunteer leaders. We are always keen to encourage new leaders, if you are interested see the walks leaders’ section.

Progamme Notes

GRID REF prefixes:   OL22 - New Forest    OL15 - Purbeck and South Dorset  E – Explorer, L - Landranger

PICK-UP CAR PARKS when included in walk details:

TMN: (OL22) SU 336139 Morrison's, West Totton CP.  A326 off junction 2 M27.  Use CP perimeter just past re-cycling area.

OAK: (OL22) SU 412062 Oak Road CP, Dibden Purlieu, behind St Andrew's Church

A number of walkers are making private arrangements to share lifts from the Ringwood / Christchurch area, so ask around on walks and you should be able to arrange something . Unfortunately new parking restrictions in the car park  we previously used in Ringwood mean it’s no longer suitable as a pick up point for longer walks and we haven’t found any suitable alternative free parking.

CAR SHARING is encouraged.  Passengers should expect to pay about 5p per mile each, towards running cost.

PICNIC LUNCHES   It is assumed that walkers will take picnic lunches on the walks of 7 miles or more.

Our walks are organised for members of The Ramblers.  Non-members are welcome to join us for an introductory period.

Disclaimer:  Although walk leaders exercise reasonable care in organising and conducting walks, neither they nor The Ramblers can accept responsibility for injury to persons or for damage to property during walks.

In extreme weather conditions, particularly snow, ice, heavy continuous rain, please check that the walk is still going to take place.  All walks take place entirely at the leader's discretion.

Security:  You are advised to lock and secure a parked car.  Do not leave money or valuables in it.

Dogs must not be allowed to run amongst walkers' feet and should be kept under close control when requested by the leader.   “Registered Assistance Dogs” are acceptable on all walks, but please do not bring other dogs on the walks marked  'No Dogs Please' .

Walkers should be aware of the prevalence of ticks in the New Forest and the dangers of contracting Lyme disease.  For information on prevention and symptoms of the disease, please click here.
